Adventures in Dublin – Part I

Traveling has been something I’ve wanted to do ever since I was a young girl. Japan has always been at the top of the list, but there have been many places in Europe that I want to see as well. With a strong desire to travel and see the world, I spontaneously booked a flight to Dublin with my boyfriend to celebrate our seven year anniversary—and I have to say, now that I’ve gotten my first dose of travel, I can’t wait for future trips!

We left for Dublin on December 9th and arrived on the 10th at about eleven o’clock in the morning. The flight itself was a new experience for me because I haven’t been on a plane in about eighteen years (I was about six the last time I’ve flown). I was a bit freaked out at times, especially when we flew through some storms, but I was fine on the flight back.

After our arrival to Dublin and checking in with our Airbnb, we mostly just walked around the city. This was actually a very rough day for me; I was quite cranky due to very little sleep on the plane and we wanted to avoid jet lag so we stayed up and walked around looking at shops.

IMG_0778For dinner we had ramen at the Ramen Bar and it was amazing! We both ended up getting the Ichiraku Ramen which pretty much was the ramen Naruto always got. There were so many options to choose from and we loved the ramen so much that we went back later in the week! After dinner, we went back to our Airbnb and went to bed for the night.

The next morning we slept much later than we IMG_0797.jpgwanted to (we didn’t wake up till ten o’clock). We had a packed day planned with a late start, but the sleep was very necessary. After getting ready and finally heading out to get the day going, we tried to scout out either a brunch or a light lunch. We ended up getting a spicy lentil soup at the Avoca cafe and that was honestly one of my favorite meals while in Dublin! It was so flavorful, especially after dipping their house bread in it. They also served us cucumber and basil infused water with our meal which was the perfect refresher to get us started for the day.

After lunch, we headed to the National Gallery of Ireland. This was definitely one of the highlights of the trip! We both absolutely love art so it was so nice to see some new artworks out there. In fact, it took us four hours to get through the whole gallery! We did not expect it to take us that long, but there were just so many wonderful pieces of art in the gallery! My favorite piece was a still-life of roses by Renoir, but unfortunately I couldn’t get a picture myself because it was on a private loan. The gallery was also free admission, which was a pleasant surprise for us.

We then went and had pizza at Cirillo’s and ended up getting the cotto pizza.IMG_0876

The pizza here was not overly greasy and was made with a wine sauce. It was really good pizza!
They also had a garlic oil  to dip the crust in and it was so delicious! I want it whenever I have pizza now.

We had plans to go to the park afterwards, but it was closed since it was dark, so we saved it for the next day.

Stay tuned for part II!
